The spectrum of contemporary peace operations has become increasingly broad and includes both UN-led peace operations, as well as those conducted by other actors, normally with the authorization of the Security Council. The specific focus of this presentation is to highlight the new challenges posed by the shifting nature of conflict, from inter-state to intra-state conflicts.
